Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of AltCatalog, a service operated by Volcanic Labs SLU ("AltCatalog", "we", "us", or "our"), including altcatalog.com, our directory, data, accounts, paid plans, and related services (collectively, the "Services"). You accept these Terms when you agree at signup or place an order. If you act for an organization, you confirm that you have authority to bind it. A paid service requires your agreement to the price and billing terms shown at checkout. You may save or print these Terms. Browsing does not authorize a payment.

1. What AltCatalog is

AltCatalog is a software-alternatives directory. We publish structured, source-linked information, moderate proposed changes, and compute Alt Scores from Verified coverage and measured first-party Visibility. Sponsorships and vendor participation do not change organic scores or positions. Paid placements are labeled.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You may browse without an account. To create an account, you must be at least 18, provide accurate information, keep your credentials secure, and notify us of unauthorized access. Paid Services are offered only to businesses and to individuals acting for purposes related to their trade, business, craft, or profession. They are not offered to consumers.

3. Contributions

You may submit facts, alternatives, corrections, flags, reasons and other material (“Contributions”). Have the right to submit it, provide genuine sources where requested, and respect confidentiality and third-party rights.

You grant a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable licence to use, reproduce, adapt, publish, display and sublicense Contributions within the Services and public history. This does not override privacy, confidentiality, required corrections or removal of unlawful content. Submitting a fact does not give you ownership of it. We may review, edit, label, dispute, demote, reject or remove Contributions to operate and protect AltCatalog.

4. Content notices and moderation

Report inaccurate, unlawful or infringing content to [email protected] with the URL, content, reasons, name/email and a good-faith accuracy statement. We may request evidence. We acknowledge receipt and communicate outcomes where contact details are available.

Human moderation, supported by automated research and abuse checks, assesses notices and proposals. Where required and legally permitted, we explain decisions and restrictions. Request reconsideration at the same address. Statutory remedies remain available.

5. Accuracy and availability

Software information changes. “Verified” describes our review process, not a guarantee. Automated research supports human publication decisions. Facts, scores, Visibility and comparisons may be incomplete, outdated or affected by measurement error. Check important decisions against the linked official source.

Except for express commitments and mandatory warranties, Services are “as is” and “as available”. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, rankings, traffic, commercial results or submission approval. Paid-review duties, data-protection obligations and mandatory remedies remain applicable.

6. Ranking integrity

Money cannot buy or move an organic ranking. You must not manipulate scores, verification, traffic, or Visibility through automated or coordinated activity, false submissions, duplicate accounts, artificial clicks, or abusive flags. Vendors may not alter competitors' pages except through the reporting and proposal tools made available to them.

7. Names, logos, and vendor pages

Product names, logos, and trademarks belong to their owners and are used for identification and comparison. Their appearance does not imply affiliation or endorsement. A verified vendor claim identifies the person managing a page. It does not make vendor-provided statements independent evidence or allow removal of accurate unfavorable information.

8. Acceptable use and API access

You must not break the law, infringe rights, submit malicious, deceptive or defamatory material, misrepresent your identity, bypass access controls, disrupt or probe the Services, or scrape, automate or bulk-extract data in a way that harms the Services or evades published limits. API credentials are confidential and you are responsible for their use. We may rate-limit, suspend, or revoke access to protect the Services and other users.

9. Paid Services

Checkout confirms price, taxes, billing period and features before payment. Unless stated otherwise, prices are in US dollars excluding VAT and other applicable taxes. Ordering authorises the agreed one-time or recurring charge.

• Fast-track: $29 once for human review within 24 hours after payment. It buys speed, not approval or ranking. Rejection earns a full refund. If we miss the deadline, request a refund before review completes.
• Pro: $19 per month per enrolled app.
• Sponsorship: $199 per month per enrolled category for a labelled placement, separate from organic ranking.

Pro and sponsorship renew monthly until cancelled. Cancellation stops renewal, with access through the paid period. Partial periods are non-refundable except under these Terms or mandatory law. Checkout prevails where its agreed price or scope differs. Other purchases or paid upgrades require your agreement.

Price increases require at least 30 days’ advance email or retainable written account notice and apply at the first renewal after that period. Cancel beforehand to avoid the increase. No retroactive increases apply. Report errors to [email protected]. We correct confirmed errors. Properly incurred charges remain payable.

10. Service changes

We may change features and reasonable usage limits as the Services evolve, without materially reducing the core functionality of a paid service during its paid period. We will not use a feature change to alter an organic ranking in exchange for payment. If we discontinue a paid Service, we will provide a proportionate refund for any prepaid period we do not provide.

11. Intellectual property

The software, design, original text and graphics, AltCatalog brand, verification methodology, and Alt Score are owned by Volcanic Labs SLU or its licensors. Except for the limited right to use the Services, no license is granted. You may not copy or extract the database as a whole. We may use suggestions about AltCatalog without paying a royalty, while protecting confidential information and personal data. Contributions remain subject to section 3.

12. Third-party services

The Services link to third-party sites and use third-party providers such as Stripe. We do not control third-party content or policies. Your use of a third-party service may be governed by its own terms.

13. Privacy

The Privacy Policy explains our personal-data processing. Contract acceptance does not replace required consent. AltCatalog controls directory publication and moderation. A listing or sponsorship purchase does not appoint us as your processor. Any separately agreed processing on your behalf requires appropriate data-processing terms.

14. Suspension and termination

You may stop using AltCatalog and request deletion at any time. Either party may terminate an ordinary material breach not remedied within 30 days after written notice. We may immediately restrict affected access where reasonably necessary for serious or non-curable breaches, unlawful activity, fraud, manipulation or security risks. Overdue undisputed fees require reasonable notice and an opportunity to resolve before restricting paid access. Where practicable, we explain restrictions and resolution.

If we end paid Services without cause, we give at least 30 days’ notice and refund unused prepaid fees. Properly incurred charges survive. Public factual history follows the Privacy Policy. Confidentiality, content licences and other provisions intended to survive remain effective.

15. Customer responsibility and indemnity

You are responsible for Contributions and service use. Where lawful, you will indemnify Volcanic Labs SLU for third-party claims, damages and reasonable costs caused by your unlawful use, infringing Contributions or section 8 breaches, except where caused by our breach or unlawful conduct.

We promptly notify you, allow you to control defence and settlement, and reasonably cooperate at your expense. Settlements admitting our liability or imposing non-monetary duties require our written consent.

16. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Volcanic Labs SLU and its affiliates, directors, employees, and agents are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or lost-profit damages, or for decisions made in reliance on directory data. Our aggregate liability arising from the affected Services is limited to the greater of EUR 100 or the fees you paid us for those Services during the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

Nothing excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including for fraud, willful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence. These limits do not restrict mandatory data-protection rights or regulatory powers and do not excuse payment of agreed charges properly incurred.

17. Changes to these Terms

We publish revisions with an update date. Material changes require at least 30 days’ advance email or retainable written account notice. Paid subscriptions change at the first renewal after that period. Free accounts change on the notified date no earlier than its end. Cancel or stop use beforehand if you disagree.

Changes strictly required by law or an urgent security risk may apply sooner, with notice as soon as reasonably possible. They cannot impose retroactive charges or authorise a new paid subscription.

18. General

Neither party is liable for delays beyond reasonable control, without erasing incurred charges or overriding mandatory law. Invalid clauses are limited or severed without affecting the rest. Non-enforcement is not a waiver. These Terms and agreed checkout/orders form the agreement. Expressly agreed signed orders prevail on the same commercial issue. The Privacy Policy explains controller processing and does not replace separately agreed processing terms.

You need our written consent to assign this agreement. We may assign to an affiliate or successor in financing, merger, reorganisation, acquisition or business sale. The assignee must assume our duties and we notify you of a provider change.

19. Governing law and operator

Spanish law governs these Terms, subject to mandatory rules that apply to you. Disputes go to the courts with jurisdiction under applicable law. A different court may be chosen only in a separately negotiated agreement that is legally valid.
